Hi,

All my dotnetnuke sites suddenly start giving errors and I am not sure why . Sites are hosted inside host gator and their supports says its a issue with dotnetnuke . I did not updated the instance and didn't made any changes to any of them . A day before all sites were working perfectly and now giving this error :-

Security Exception

Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy.  To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.17626

I had tried the dotnetnuke 7 upgrade mannually in one of the site. I have replaced the files but upgrade page is showing the same error . Trust level is same as before not set inside web.config whereas it is default server setting..

I am using Dotnetnuke version which is prior to dotnetnuke 7 . May be its version 6.2. There is one dotnetnuke 7.0 site also inside the same server which is working fine but even after adding dotnetnuke 7 upgrade package site is giving the same error . Please help me !!

Thanks

Pranav

That's a terrible response. You'd think they offer more than "it's DNN's fault".

Anyhow, see if this helps:

This issue is triggered by the hosting provider having upgraded the ASP.Net framework from version 4.0 to version 4.5. Since this is an "in place" upgrade, the ASP.Net version will still show as 4.0 in unhandled error messages even though the various ASP.Net assemblies have been replaced by their 4.5 versions. One of the changes is that a system method called from the Telerik.Web.UI.dll assembly now requires full trust rather than medium trust. DNN 7.0.0 includes a new Telerik.Web.UI.dll assembly which resolves the issue so that the site can still be run under medium trust.

Unfortunately as you discovered in order for the upgrade to DNN 7.0.0 to start it will be necessary to temporarily run the site in full trust after making the configuration change to web.config as Mark instructed in his reply. Hopefully Host Gator permits full trust. Provided that the upgrade to 7.0.0 completes successfully you should then be able to return to medium trust if desired.

If Host Gator does not permit full trust it may be possible ot manually extract the new Telerik.Web.UI.dll assembly from its install package, place it in the site's /bin folder and manually modify the binding redirect for this assembly in web.config so that the upgrade of the site to DNN 7.0.0 can then be run. I have not tested this approach and would want to try it on a cloned site first.

Should you need to restore the site to DNN 6.2.x, did you make backups of the file system and database before attempting to upgrade to DNN 7.0.0?

We experienced the exact same issue last night with Host Gator. Keep us posted if you find a solution.

Hi William,

Many thanks for the solutions .I tried that but it didn't worked .

Thanks to all for the response.

Finally, I have asked host gator to fix it at any cost and they agreed to upgrade the site in order to fix the issue. They didn't upgrade the site to v7.0 but issue is fixed with some styling missing which I fixed myself.Altogether it was a very bad experience from host gator .

Thanks

Pranav
