In DNN 7 I am tinkering with the social features and noticed the ability to Follow and Un-Follow Friends. But i noticed that it does not seem to do anything, or at least what I thought it would do. After reading the user manual it says that this is for following a friends activities, I created two users in my test site and have them set as friends and selected the follow option for both as well.

Logged in as user A I posted a photo on my profile's journal, then logged in as user B and assumed that I would see that photo posted by user A on my profile journal as well but it's not there. Am I missing something? How/where would I see the activities of my friends whom I am following?

You should see it on the main activity journal - not your own user profile activity (I assume you're looking at this on your user page?)

I normally have the journal setup on the homepage and a journal setup on the user/group pages.

Otherwise, it looks like a bug.

Scott...

I added the Journal module to a new page outside of the Groups and Profile pages and I do not see any difference. Following or not I see posts from all other other users. I have the Journal editor turned off so users can only post to the journal from their profile page. Which is visible in the community journal as well.

I guess I had different expectations, like in facebook i only care to see journal entries from my friends or members that i am following . This DNN module basically dumps all posts from everyone in the community regardless if they are a friend or being followed.

The security behind the scenes is there to do what you need, however the current functionality of submitting a status update posts it with a security of E (which means everyone can see it).

The tooltip does say, "Tell the world something.."

If there were more configuration items on the journal, it would be good to configure the journal security for status updates, that way it would work precisely the way you want it to.

The everyone permission is hardcoded in \DesktopModules\Journal\scripts\Journal.js

You can also control who can see it when posting an update to by clicking the eye icon,

journalItem.Security = 'E';

After digging around in the code I agree with what your saying... Still baffled as to what the "Follow" feature does. Maybe it's an API property for custom modules to use?

I will most likely modify the Journal to work like I need it to and just keep my eye on any updates coming from DNN Corp.

Your website is pretty sharp by the way.. :-)
