We are creating a portal that needs to be accessed by both employee’s and vendors in three ways:

    1. Seamless auto-login and authentication via AD when the employee is in the Intranet environment.
    2. Dialog based login and authentication via AD from a public facing Extranet for employees.
    3. Dialog based login and authentication via DNN from the public facing Extranet for vendors.

Does this module support this combination of login scenarios on a single portal?
If so, what are the proper steps to setting it up?
Can I have different Login strategies on different portals like only standard on one and mixed on another?

FYI: Our environment: is currently DNN 06.02.05 on Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5(Classic Pipeline) & SQL Server 2005 Standard.   We are willing to make adjustments in the pipeline mode to make this work.

I looked for scenario based documentaion and could not locate any.  I would really appreciate any help, links to guides or advice from anyone who has experience with this type of configuration.

AFAIK no, it cannot. The AD module supports AD authentication and that is how it appears to work on my end unless I'm missing something.

You can set up different authentication methods by portal. I have the AD module on the main part of my intranet but people login using DNN accounts on child portals.

I have a few portals setup that way, it is pretty simple.

Just activate both AD login and DNN login and configure AD login to auto-login the IP range of the computers on your Intranet.

From there, the users on your Intranet will get automatically logged in, and the others will have to log in manually. There will be two buttons on the login page, one for DNN login and one for Windows login (I edited the resources to change the wording on the buttons).

Mark and Dan - Thank you both for your excellent replies.  I really appreciate your williness to share your experiences.

I have the module working for part of our scenario but Windows Authentication is currently disabled.  It will allow a public interface and  authenticate through AD but the roles don't synch.  We haven't even attempted the autologin scenario because we kept getting 401 redirect errors when Windows authentication was enabled.  As I have read some other posts, I think I missed the impersonation requirement so I will reenable windows authentication and try again with impersonation.   I will repost here when I have completed the testing.   I really admire the effort and dedication that it took to create the module, I'm just trying to understand all the different ways it can be used.  Dan - since you have this working,  I would welcome any pointers or configuration tips you might have.

The one thing I was able to do was to change the interface with a little jQuery and a couple of ascx edits so the AD login was the default. You can check it out here.

 Thanks again!
