I know you can use module template and I am looking at them also but is it possible to create custom modules  using vs2010.

Could I create an empty asp.net project and build user forms or any API using a standard ascx with my own DAL, business classes etc in a components folder (as I have done for many years and very familiar with).
How would I then package this for use in DNN 7.0

Stuart, you would basically need to register the module with DNN manually using the Host/Extensions page. Then you can use that same registration to package the module into a ZIP file.

To be honest though, starting with a working template will be far easier. See your other thread which I just replied to for the link to the templates.

Save yourself a ton of time and effort and use Chris' template. I've built modules with and without it and it's 1000 x's easier with it.

Yes, I am sure it is and although at present I seem to be struggling to get anything to work, although I do intend to sit down and go through chris's module development tutorials when all is sorted.
At present I managed to get a basic products module built using another temple and tutorial and installed it via the create new module in DNN7. it showed me a plain products page and by going into the edit fuction I added a product successfully but it dd not show up in the view mode.
to tell you the truth I have not yet got my head around how DNN works with modules

Since then I have struggled to make Chris' s template work. On my XP box I had to install DD6 but still had big problems with the app pool and integrated pipeline in II6.
On a 2008  virtual web server and DNN7 I cannot create a project using this template without it wanting a locall IIS url in advance?
I am sure I will get there but my problem like us all is time to spend on the learning curve.
