We recently noticed that Image Manager does not look at the folder that it's in to get a directory listing-- it asks the database what ought to be there. This is after several weeks of using Windows Explorer/My Computer to move things around. Oops!

Now that we know better, we can use Image Manager to 'Upload' and 'overwrite existing' to tell the database where everything really is. But this process is slow: one file at a time.

Does anyone have a workaround that would remedy this?

Try going to the Admin File Manager, and choosing the Synchronize option, be sure to choose recursive.

Though that unfortunately won't fix any existing image paths and such within content. For that you might need to use a tool like Engage F3 to search/replace across content.

Synchronize-- thanks!
And yes- we were afraid of that for existing paths. Thanks for that suggestion!
