You were posting at the same time I was so I see you found how to get the exact error. As to the actual error... I can't say. It's getting beyond my range of DotNetNuke expertise.

It appears I already have CustomErrors mode = "Off" in my web config

Oddly enough, it began workig when browsing from the server itself - but from another machine on the network it continues to try an navigate to <site>/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=...

Seems suspiciously like an auto login issue....or do you think it's just a fluke that it's trying to go to a page called Account\Login?

Something else I noticed. If I browse to the site on the server itself it auto logs me in.  But if I click Log Out - it blows up with the same 404.0 error - apparently trying to go to Account\Login.  Very suspicious indeed!

You can take the AD provider out of the equation by just commenting out the add name = "Authentication .... that references the AD provider in the modules section of your web.config. And you can do the same in the httpModules section though that is really for the classic mode.

I commented out both Authentication blocks in the web config.  If I run the AppPool in classic mode I get sent to login.aspx.  If I run it in Integrated I get sent to Account\Login and thus the 404 error.

If I uncomment out the Authentication block in the web config the same thing happens when in Integrated mode, in Classic mode I get auto logged in but anm told I don't have permission to view anything and the user name doesn't show up.

I found an old unanswered forum post asking how to set up auto-login using AD, dnn 7, and IIS 7.  Does anyone know how to set this up?  Is there a document anywhere describing the process?  Surely it has been done.  I feel I need to start from scratch but I don't know where to begin.

Thanks.

Soon to be unemployed,

Pat

Okay so the problem you're having (getting sent to Account/Login) has nothing to do with the AD provider. Commenting out those lines stopped it from being loaded at all when you launch your site. The problem you're seeing now has nothing to do with setting up the AD provider (setup is the same for DNN 7 as it was for DNN 6 and is covered in the documentation. The only caveat to that is the work-around that's currently needed by having something entered into the Auto-Login box at least once so that the ADSubnet record is written to the PortalSettings table in the database.

I'm not going to be home tonight so I won't have a chance to see if I can recreate what you're seeing but I'm pretty sure it's from having your system run under the classic pipeline when it should've been running under integrated. In the past I'd also be looking in the directories under Windows\Microsoft.NET for any sign of the site and deleting those as well (it's where the .NET framework actually loads your site from) but I haven't had to do that in years so I don't know if it makes a difference anymore.

I do know that auto-login does work under DNN 7. I setup this site (http://addnn7.hortonfamily.ca) on Sunday and after applying the work-around mentioned before it's been good to go since.
