Hello everyone,

I tried to configure SMTP Server on DotNetNuke 6.2.5. But I met some problems.

I tried to use smtp.gmail.com as SMTP Server.

SMTP Authentication: Basic

SMTP Enable SSL: checked

SMTP Username: ######

SMTP Password: ######

But when test configuration, I always get error: There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent.

Do you have some suggestions?

Thanks very much in advance!

Have you firstly tested if you can access the gmail server without using dnn.

A number of internet hosts have an annoying habit of blocking outbound ports to external smtp servers 'by default'.

You might take a look at Admin > Events after hitting the Test SMTP button. It will likely have general exception logged with a more detailed error message that might help you.

Also, as mentioned, gmail will likely block the connection unless you tell it otherwise. Last time I tried this (which was awhile ago) gmail sent me an email saying it blocked a suspicious login attempt, but provided a way to enable that functionality.

Are you adding a port number to the SMTP server? As I recall from having set up a DNN install for a client that it was necessary to include the port number 465 (or maybe 587) preceeded by a colon as in the following:

smtp.gmail.com:465

Check your gmail.com account settings and be sure that you have enabled POP . There should be help for configuring POP/SMTP in a variety of clients.

I don't know if you were able to get assistance on setting up your email, but we have a pretty easy to follow KB article that I think may help out.

Let me know if this helps.
