I've create a test module named DNNModule2 and have the project in the desktopmodules directory of my dnn installation.

What web properties of the project in VS 2012 (e.g. start url, override application url etc) do I need to set to test my module?   Also, do  I need to make any changes to my DNN web.config to test?

Thanks

Check out Chris Hammond's module tutorials here

There are more that also cover the project setings:

Also, I've found this extension for Visual Studio to be very helpful when you need to run the debugger in a module solution but don't want to go through the debug setup.

I watched the video and now understand how to debug.

My current issue is that for some reason VS2012 will not let me drag controls onto my view.ascx file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Here's some more information about my situation. I created my project with VS 2012 under the desktopmodules folder. I compiled my project and installed it into my dnn dev site and added my control to a test page in DNN. Here's what is happening different than the webinar video:

1) VS did not detect that my view.ascx page had changed after the install into DNN
2) When I make and save text edits in my view.ascx they are not reflected on my test page in DNN even though the the view.ascx file in desktopmodules/mycontrol has the changes
3) VS will not let me add controls to my view.ascx page

Finally, my dev enironment is installed at http://localhost/dotnetnuke which diffent than the video.

Thanks in advance.

I suspect you need to package and install the module through DNNS' Extensions Installation Wizard. This basically tells DNN about the module (registers the controls).
