To do exactly what you're looking for you will need to develop a custom module; although to be frank I believe you are going about this the wrong way.

Is the "Researcher ID" unique to each login? If it is; then why not just take advantage of the "Profile Settings" (which lives under Admin -> Site Settings -> User Account Settings - > Profile Settings).

Here's what you can do then: Create a new profile property called "Researcher ID" and when the user creates their profile they must type in the information associated with that. After that, to pull that custom property you can use "UserInfo.GetProperty" to get the value of that "Researcher ID" information of the currently logged in user.

I'd go a step further and suggest you simply use the UserID generated by DNN. Unless the ResearcherID is used as a type of 2 factor authentication or as a key record against some other database, then each user would be uniquely identified in the framework already by DNN's UserId. If you wanted to segment the researchers you could add them to a role (Researchers).

Now your other module(s) can display data specific to that researcher simply by building your modules to filter on that key.
