I get conflicting and confusing information on how to get jQuery to work on a custom module and it's frustrating to figure out what's the best and correct way.

Some say that you have to use:

DotNetNuke.Framework.jQuery.RequestRegistration()

Some say to use the Client Resource Management framework:

<dnn:DnnJsInclude runat="server" FilePath="jquery.cycle.min.js" PathNameAlias="SkinPath" /> (why not the jquery.min.js?)

Some say just to put these lines on the view.ascx:

<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.js"></script>

<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.9.0/jquery-ui.js"></script>

<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.9.0/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" />

 What's the best way to do this if all of my modules are using the same version of jQuery?

The best approach is the first:

DotNetNuke.Framework.jQuery.RequestRegistration();

in the module's OnInit or OnLoad method.

The worst is the use of the script block with version specific jQuery references which may result in attempts to load jQuery more than once on the page and/or conflicting versions of jQuery Note also that there are currently issues with using jQuery v 1.8.2 and jQueryUI v 1.9.0. The most recent versions included with DNN 7.0.5 are v 1.7.2 and 1.8.16 respectively.

The DnnJSInclude control in your example loads jQuery.cycle.min.js which is the rotator plugin.
