good morning everyone,

i have a quick question about using dotnetnuke.  i'm going through the "Super User Manual" and came up page 486 where it talks about installing "Providers" located at "Admin -> Advanced Settings -> Advanced Configuration Settings" in the "Providers" tab.

what do the following providers do?  where can i find them located at after installing them?

1.  DotNetNuke ASP2 Menu Navigationl Provider
2.  DotNetNuke DNN DropDown Navigation Provider
3.  DotNetNuke DNN Tree Navigation Provider
4.  DotNetNuke Solpart Menu Navigation Provider

Thank you very much for your help on this matter.  Have a great day.

Hi,

These all are the different menus available in dotnetnuke website. When you will install it, it will appear in the web.config file of your website in the section. If you uninstall it, it will be removed from this file. For details about menus you can view this page.

Thanks,

you should install those menu providers only, if required by the skin applied to your site, otherwise simply ignore it.

i guess what i am trying to get at is what are the differences do each of the providers do to the menu, specifically provider 1 & 4:

1.  DotNetNuke ASP2 Menu Navigationl Provider
4.  DotNetNuke Solpart Menu Navigation Provider

can you have more than 1 of those providers installed at the same time?  if the skin does not require those providers to be installed, can i still install one of the providers?

and between provider 1 & 4, which one is better?

thank you very much for your help.

the skin will only use either the specific menu required or use default provider, but AFAIK very few skins still take the NAV provider approach. Solpart has been default menu for a number of years, but development has ended about 5 years ago. ASP2 menu is a component provided by Microsoft, but, again, I hardly know any skin using it.
The most up to date component is DDR menu, which is default menu for DNN 6 and 7 and is installed automatically.
