I have been wanting to try DNN for some time now.  And I recently decided to setup a host and start delivering DNN sites to clients.

The way the interface works imo is second to none.  The only other CMS I know of, may be more, that has a similar interface for site management is Concrete5.  But C5 of course is on PHP and from all the ratings I reviewed is far inferior to DNN in many many ways.

That said and with my focus on learning DNN I have started hunting for some books.  The first aspect I want to master is skinning.  I don't want to have to rely on pre-built templates which stifle my creativity.

The books I'm seeing on Amazon are OLD, with a capital OLD.  Lastest skinning book that comes up is "Beginning DotNetNuke"  "Skinning and Design by Andrew Hay and Shaun Walker which was published in 2007.  6yo to me seems like a total waste of money.  I want something that covers the newer version, if not the newest version.

Anyone have any suggestions for good books that are fairly recent which also cover skinning in depth?

Sadly at this point in time, given the current status of books as a whole in the tech space, and specifically DotNetNuke, there just isn't much out there. I'm the author of one of the dated DotNetNuke books "Professional DotNetNuke Module Programming", and that book being released in 2009 is still "somewhat relevant", but horribly outdated. When reaching out to the publishers about trying a newer version books are just not selling much so I'm not seeing a lot of interest in the publishers from making them. At least that is what I'm seeing. Online Tutorials and other sources of training though are becoming more popular.

Well that stinks.  I'm all for online tuts etc and DNN does seem to have fairly well blanketed resources in that area from what I'm seeing.  I really like to have a complete and thorough manual/resource book however at the very least for reference.  For example with the skinning engine I am only really finding the Skinning 101 4 part series, which is good, but I find it most helpful to see 2-3 different approaches to really grasp a concept especially with how little one can cover in a small tutorial.

What are your best suggestions to get educated on really mastering skinning?

Dear All,

Yes, this book issue is worth working on. When you have books on something - goes a long way to show that thing is interesting and alive! We need books, DNN books - by the way this site is also dated and doesn't showcase DotNetNuke in the best light as a platform. Please update the site.

Regards,
Aodax
