hi,

first, i'm new to DNN and i'm not a web developer so my IT knowledge is limited, I apologize beforehand if it is too obvious. I also have searched forum and through google but the information was not really helpful for me.

 my question:

i have set up DNN on my computer and i have access to the site using localhost/mySiteName but since there will be two persons developing this website i need to know:

1. i need to know how can i access the site using another computer from same network (with same IP). i guess it will be through computer names and portal aliases but i don't know how to do it, step by step.

2. how to access site with another computer outside my network (with distinctive IP).

i'd appreciate if you could answer me how to do these step by step.

windows 7, DotNetNuke Community Edition, version 07.00.06

if you installed DNN on default website of your machine, you may add IP address as portal alias and access using IP address from any PC inside your network. for access from outside the network, you need to configure your firewall properly and use a static IP address. if you want to access the website using a domain name, you need to register the domain and use a name server to promote the name and associated IP address.

thank you for your answer, now i can access the site remotely from the same network with these steps:

1. find the server's local ip (ipconfig-->ip v4)
2. login as host in server computer, go to admin->site setting-->site aliases and add ip as alias.

now, to access the site from another computer outside network, you said configure your firewall properly and use static IP. how should i configure firewall? and after setting firewall, what should i do, should i add my internet ip address in site aliases? should the client also do some configurations?

 thanks.

you need to open up your network for access from outside, which is usually blocked by a firewall (on the router). proper steps depend on the product being used. Be careful, wrong configuration may affect security of your local network!
