After version 7.00.06 my upgrade gets the critical error and I cannot log in. I tried installing different version step by step. I Waited until the latest version came out still got the same error and I get locked out of my website. I have been restoring from a nightly backup. I do not have the install.aspx page. I tried your link but it just comes up with a white blank page. I need help this has been like this for almost a year. Thanks

For the record... I just tried upgrade from 6.2.8 to 7.2.2 and got the "cant login critical error has occurred" message as per the original poster here. 

Teds (legend!) fix on page 4 of this thread worked a charm - modified the web config "members defaultProvider...." and I could once again log in as before :) 

No idea if this is a check that can included in the 7.2.x  upgrade process, might help others in this situation.

Regards my site history - its been live for some years - I think I started DNN 3.x?? with various upgrades since then through to 6.2.x.

Anyway many thanks again to Ted !!! for his original post.

I had a similar problem on a site where I upgraded from 6.02.08 to 7.03.02. The site was working but any login resulted in a page that simply said DNN error. I found this thread and I had hoped this was answer but my web.config file looked correct. Digging into the error logs I found that something called filehelpers.dll was not loading. That led me to the link below.

I downloaded the dll and put it in the bin directory and the problem was resolved.

I wanted to post this in this thread in case it could help someone else.
