Hi,

I have a Win7 64-bit platform, IIS 7.5 and followed the installation instructions for SQL Server Express User Instance install.

Everything works. I can add modules after applying the fix <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" > in the system.webserver section. So basically I'm pretty able to work with dotnetnuke at first sight.

However, next time I reboot the laptop and try to connect to http://localhost/dotnetnuke I get following error:

DotNetNuke Error

Connection To The Database Failed

Return to Site

What did I do wrong? I have an application pool called dotnetnuke, Integrated Mode, .NET version 4 which is used as the application for the dotnetnuke website. I used the standard install with respect to SQL Server express. No difference from default installation. IIS AppPool\dotnetnuke has full access to the dotnetnuke folder and subfolders, as well as the local network account. The web.config is conform to the expected connection string setup for SQL Express and the SQL Server 2008 connection strings are commented out.

It's driving me crazy: I already reinstalled and followed the installation instructions for more then 5 times now. The only thing I can think of is that maybe there's a conflict since I also have SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on my laptop. The services however are not running on this laptop (must be manually started). I only use SQL Server 2008 R2 from time to time for demonstration purposes.

- did you make sure, you enabled TCP/IP support for both, SQL Server and Client?
- is SQL Server configured for remote access (if residing on a different machine)?
- has the sql server user be created and granted dbowner permission for the database?

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

Please try to disable the UAC in your Windows Settings.  Also please check the positions from Sebastian.

Please check also your Firewall Port 1433 TCP and 1434UDP must be open for internal Network.
