Peter,
you should just follow the upgrade path, do not install any beta versions.
Display errors might be caused by compatibility issues of the skin with the new DNN - this is not typical, but some skins do use very old techniques. Switch to default skin/container and check, whether it looks fine. If yes, continue upgrades to DNN 7. check, how your old skin looks now and contact the skinner for an upgrade.

Hi Peter,

I have no idea if jQuery goes back this far in DNN so this might be rubbish. Are you using hosted jQuery? If so then you may be asking for a version that the upgraded site does not like. Try swapping to unhosted for the upgrade. You can swap back later.

Check that you unblocked the zip files before upgrading. If you don't unblock then sometimes they don't unpack all the files. Never understood how that seems to be random.

Best wishes,

Hi Peter,

on Upgrades and spezically with big differents on the Versions you must be know that Skins and modules could need upgrades.  Some new Versions of DNN Platform have new jQuery Versions includet, code changes and so on.  So you must check compatibly of Skins and modules before running your upgrade. Please check also your jQuery Settings in your Host Settings, and don't use hosted jQuery Versions for Upgrades.
