I am toying around with the Module Creator (primarily because of Razor). However, I don't like that it creates code files in /App_Code. I tried to "create" my own folder when I input the name of the code file by doing "/FolderName/ClassName.cs" but got an error (which I half expected - I saw that it said it would place the file in /App_Code).

I presume I would not be able to designate a folder for an .ascx or .cshtml file either.

My question is whether or not I can create that code file, then remove it from /App_Code and put it in a specific folder in the actual module's directory (the same for .ascx and .cshtml files)? Is this impossible? Will it not work?

Thanks.

AFAIK razor code needs to be executed as jit compiled from /AppCode folder, otherwise you should create a WAP (Web Application Project) module in Visual Studio (Express), using one of the templates available.

The need to the /app_code/ folder is a function of ASP.NET -  basically the best way to think of it - is as an AUTOCOMPILE folder - any code put in here will be compiled automatically and linked into the currently running application.

This means no need for building a compiled .dll - the system looks after it all internally.  As such the moment you request a page  -  all the objects and controls defile in the /app_code/ folder automatically become available to access from other modules in the system.   This is how RAZOR is able to make use of them.  Without this process - you would need to build .dll libraries for razor to call - which kinda defeats the purpose of RAZOR scripting.
