Hi,

I am attempting to port an existing DNN3 site into a clean DNN4 install.

For some reason, when trying to do a "Export Template with Content" on the source site, it bombs out with an error.

This is a major problem for me as the site is quite large and would take ages to manually content load into the DNN4 site.

I have done my best to try and find out why the export content function is not working but with no luck.

Can anyone think of any other method that I might be able to use to get the content out of the old site and into the new site?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Trev

Why don't you upgrade the site?

I did think about doing that but I have 2 reasons not to.

1. The site is live and I cannot risk knocking it over.
2. I have created an additional portal on the site and the export function works perfectly on that portal. So I suspect an upgrade may not fix the problem.

I am thinking of writing an SQL script to migrate the content. Does anyone have any pointers where I should start?

Thanks

Trev

it's always caused me concerns when i have to reply to myself... lol

Anyway, as a starter for 10, how about this for a sql migration script..

Pages are Tabs.

Tabs have modules.

Modules have content.

...

Looking at the database, all entries into the corresponding tables give the records Auto IDs. To complicate this, pages have relationship relating to each other.

So, this means that a sql script would have to do more than just copy tables from one database to another. Sadly not. It's going to have to be a script that inserts into a new database, being careful not to damage it, use it's new id numbers and insert the data maintaining the integrity of the page structure of the old site. It would then have to look up new record ids and insert data relating to page structure and module/module content.

No wonder there aren't any modules on Snowcovered to do this...

This is getting all too complicated. I think i need to try and think laterally.

Any thoughts chaps?

Trev
