Questions about using dotnetNuke for gov portal.

  1. Can I remove branding?
  2. Does dotNetNuke live site use SQL express or full SQL database
  3. Are there limits to using SQL express

The licensing seems very flexible.  We are a county government in Wisconsin and we are using DNN for both a public website and an internal application.  We've stripped all branding and the copyright notice which was easily done using a parameter provided in the host setup.  The logo and other items are mostly images so it's fairly easy to do.

1. Yes, this can be done easily by changing the logo in the administrator settings, and replacing them with your own logo, or by creating a DNN skin, which can customize the look of your site to any way you want.

2. You can use either SQL Express or full SQL.

3. Check out http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/default.mspx for SQL express limitations. I'm sure that you would be fine using express.

Kathy, welcome to the dotNetNuke forums.

1. Removal of visible branding is explicitly allowed, but not from the source code.  Of course, your users never see the source code.

2. DotNetNuke uses a "data provider" architecture allowing you to use the database of your choice (as long as you have provider code written).  The default installation has a choice between SQL Express and SQL Server.  There are other providers written for MySQL, Firebird, etc.

Feel free to ask any other questions you like.
