I am moving a DNN site we have been hosting on our own equipment to Arvixe.com
DNN is installed and now I need to migrate the users to the new box.

Theres 300- 400 users with custom profile properties.
I am looking for a free app or module to help with this.
I did look quickly at one I found but it didn't do the custom properties.

Any ideas

I started to write my own but I am just too busy to continue with that.
I hope to ind a free solution because I was already paid for this work and would have to pay out of my own pocket if I need to purchase anything.

Since this is a clean install, maybe I can simply import table data from one DB to the other?

I guess that depends on if there are many changes between the 2 DB's

Bill,

importing table data from one to the other should be possible - but take care:

- I don't think that this can be done without a script and some helper tables, so if you do this: test, test, test before you really do it on your production environment
- User IDs (and not usernnames) are the primary key, so take care
- maybe there is a need to transform the Role IDs where the users belong to as well (table UserRoles)
- and also the Portal IDs (table UserPortals)
- there are two User IDs in the User Relationship table, so if you don't want to loose the "friendships" etc. there is an extra-challenge.
- User IDs can also be used in tables of other modules (forums, blogs, shops, journal...)

So, if you do this you should be very careful and know exaclty what you want, what's your needs and what you are doing. I am not sure if there is some program, script etc. that can do this, but have a look in the store, or maybe something can be found in CodePlex, GitHub...

Best wishes
Michael

I prefer using BulkUserManager from PHD (http://store.dnnsoftware.com/home/product-details/bulk-user-manager-v33) - not too expensive and easy to use for export and import (via csv/txt files).

I was able to get it mostly done using SQL Management Studio- opening the remote DB and then importing from the local DB with different table names, then some scripting to copy the data from table to table.
You are correct in the identy column headaches.
I have it mostly done except no users are showing in DNN yet because of some things I need to tie up like the PortalID in UserPortals being incorrect - 4 in old DB and 0 in the new.

Would be nice if someone has a list of all the tables I need to process- I think I may be missing one or 2.

I found this but not sure what the asp tables are for or if I need to worry about them for a new site

aspnet_membership, aspnet_users, Users, UserProfile, ProfilePropertyDefinition, UserRoles, UserPortals

Check through the tables in this script (excludes Profile Properties) - http://www.dnnsoftware.com/forums/forumid/108/threadid/491250/scope/posts
