I'd like to extend the functionality of the user profile page to download a photo from facebook (or whatever social site the user specifies).

Has anyone done this before? is there a module for sale which does just this, or am I the first to come up with this idea?

I could image a custom made module which -on page load-  reads a custom facebook-property in the users profile, gets the image from facebook.com and insert it, just like the profile photo is normally added.

I wonder if this would be a sane approach.

And then there is the weird issue that the My Profile page doesn't seem to display any other modules. The modules that are set to "include on all pages" don't show up (which unfortunately include my page header and menu), even though according to the page info, they are on the page. I can't even seem to add a html/text-module. Also moving the one module that is on the page (the user profile) to an other pane, doesn't stick: The module moves back to the content pane after a few seconds.

I guess the ActivityFeed pages are some special kind of pages? Can I get it to work like a normal pages?

that should be possible - either within a custom module or profile property

I would use a custom profile property - see http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/Page/ProfileModuleUserControlBase

Sebastian, Do you have any idea why the ActivityFeed page behaves so strange?
(I got this piece of code in my skin to display a link to the profile of the current user:
<a href=<%=NavigateURL(PortalSettings.UserTabId, "Profile", "userId=" & UserController.GetCurrentUserInfo().UserID, "pageno=1")%>><%=PortalSettings.UserInfo.DisplayName%></a>
)
My skin is there, I can see all my panes when adding a module, but I can't actually add a module. And moving the only module on that page to a different pane, doesn't stick.
This doesn't seem to be an issue with my skin, it's the same with the awesome cycles skin.

Not being able to add a module to the page, would make it impossible to add a module which downloads the profile picture from facebook. (Or I would have to add it to the skin)

The user profile doesn't seem to be a module I can add to a new page either.
