So I am sure the issue is related to the JavaScript. AFAIK, DarkNight Skin was written for DNN 5.x and on DNN 7.1 are new jQuery 1.9.1 and jQuery 1.10.3 included.  You can find the changes on the jQuery and jQueryUI pages.

I've checked the host settings and it does show those versions of jQuery installed.

I've also taken the opportunity to upgrade to a responsive skin and I am no longer using the Dark Knight skin.

Unfortunately I still do have the problem and can't add existing modules.

are you using a custom module action menu, like the one from Watchers.Net on codeplex?

No I'm not using anything like that.

If you think it may be necessary to get to the bottom of this, I'll do some research and reading up on it.

On Host Settings under the advanced Settings, you should find a jQuery tab, and there should be the Version of jQuery and jQueryUI that is delivered with DNN and you should able to use hosted (CDN) Files adding the URL to the jQuery Versions.  If this is empty somthing should going wrong on the upgrade.
