Hi,

I mostly use Godaddy for the various DNN sites that I manage, and up till now I've just used their automated DNN installer to handle the setup for me. But, it appears that their installer is hosed right now. The installer thinks it needs SQL2008 when they only have SQL2005 and SQL2012 available. So it should work but doesn't.

That being said I will need to manually install DNN, so two things:
1. Are the versions available via codeplex the Community version(s)?
2. Which version of 7 should I download and install? There are a few comments on Codeplex concerning the various versions of 7.x and most of them are doom and gloom. Godaddy lists 7.0.6. as the version they are currently offering to install (assuming their installer was working).

Thanks for any information offered!

Jim

Well, I just went for it and installed 7.0.6. All went well and the site is up and running (so far ;-)

For anyone interested I will create another thread that outlines the steps I took to install DNN on Godaddy.

Would love to know step by step how you did it!

And thanks!

Sure thing. The following list assumes some knowledge of GoDaddy's hosting control panel(s).

To install a DNN site on Godaddy manually...

Using the Godaddy hosting control panel:
1. (file manager) Create a sub-folder off the root of your hosting space for DNN to live in (Godaddy doesn't like you to put a DNN site in the root).
2. (file manager) Set the permissions for the folder to allow read and write.
3. (IIS manager) Add the folder to the IIS manager and set it for executable (by checking "Set Application Root").
4. (SQL manger) Create an SQL db (using SQL2012) - Note the SQL hostname / SQL user / SQL password you assign the db.

Using ftp / browser:
5. Download the installation zip of the version of DNN wanted from Codeplex.
6. Unzip the zip contents into a folder on your local system.
7. Using ftp, upload all of the unzipped files / folders to the site DNN folder configured above.
8. Navigate to your domain / DNN path
9. Follow the DNN installation wizard as needed - Note that you will need to use the custom db option to configure your SQL db (since it's not SQL Express).
