Frequent users of our page have reported a similar experience, provided below.

Pages they often visit that are typically fairly fast, suddenly loads very slowly. Refresh and subsequent revisits loads the page about the same typical speed as previous to the one slow page load.

I say it was a DNN caching issue, but it is a page often used by them and others (for instance the front page of the site). I'd say it was a blocking issue from SQL, but we have alerts that would trigger if this occurs.

We are looking for ideas on where we should look or ways we could replicate or trap the event. Because it is so random (maybe reported every 1-2 weeks) it is difficult to be looking at the moment it occurs.

 Thanks in advance,

 Chris

pages are usually cached for a certain time, after the cache invalidates, the module output needs to be recreated and/or objects need to be retrieved again from the database. I would check database performance and you may increase module output cache time to reduce the effect.

Check your event log for application restart events - basically what is happening when the user sees a slow page load is that a application restart has been triggered for some reason.

This may occur if the application has not been active for some period of time - and simply times out - or if your server hosting has configured a periodic restart of the application pool - or if the server hosting has configured some performance threshold such as amount of memory or resource usage that triggers an application pool refresh.
