I am learning to skin my DNN4 sites and having a great time. However, we programmers are prone to make a mistake here and there with our code, and when a skin is concerned, it can be disastrous (yes, I know: I could have just previewed it; but I've been working on this skin a while and thought my minor tweak would not crash the application!).  Here's the message I got after reparsing my skin with a few more entries in the skin.xml file (I'm working on the SolPartMenu):

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Conversion from string "100%" to type 'Decimal' is not valid. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "100%" to type 'Decimal' is not valid. at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToDecimal(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToDecimal(String Value) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.NavObjectBase.AssignControlProperties() at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.NavObjectBase.InitializeNavControl(Control objParent, String strDefaultProvider) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.SolPartMenu.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I wish there was an easy way to go back and load the default skin when it is not working like this. Maybe it could be a URL like: http://server/dnnsite/Default.aspx?safemode

Just an idea.  I know how to go in and manually fix this on my local server (which is why I've not published my skin to my host yet!).

You would have to use ftp to reset it - or log in as host, access the portal from the host/portal area, click the portal settings and in the admin section change the skin there and refresh the page.

That is of course if you didn't do a double boo boo and apply to the whole site including admin pages
