I need some information on WebAPI authentication using Active Directory.  We have a portal using the AD Provider module for authentication.  I am trying to access a WebAPI method using host credentials that has the [RequireHost] attribute and I receive an authentication error.  I can change to uri to point to another portal on the same install that uses DNN authentication and it behaves appropriately, authenticating the host account and denying access to any other account.

Does WebAPI support authentication through the AD Provider module?   Do I need to send the username in a specific format?  (I’ve tried ‘username’, ‘domain\username’ and ‘username@domain.com’)

Thanks,

Mike Toerner

when you use Active directory DNN will create a user for you and that's the user that is logged in (i.e. the user stored in the forms auth cookie) - as such that user would have to be a superuser to run methods that have RequreHost (you can set this in host->super user accounts) -you can of course also log in as a host via the traditional method

Thanks Cathal, In this case the user that I am trying to authenticate is a superuser in the portal with the AD Provider. After changing the Auth attribute to [DNNAuthorize(StaticRoles="Registered Users")] I am still getting an "Authorization has been denied for this request" error message for any user in the portal. The only way I can access this method currently is to use the [AllowAnonymous] attribute.
