Thank you for your attention to this, specialy on a Sunday!

About commenting the issue in DNNTracker. Yesterday, trying to comment I registered as a new user and I logged in. Exploring around I realized that when I clicked “Agile Board” a popup with a rotating circles sign appeared and stayed there for long. I’ve tried with IE11 and Chrome. Today, it is different, in that dialog shows “Go To Board” and now I can proceed choosing “Platform” and see the board. There I can see the issue with the same info that on the first page, alongside with more issues. But, on both pages, I cannot see how I can add a comment. But that is not important, I think.

About the issue.

I don’t quite understand what you say about the versions, since what I was saying is that there is a comment from Sacha Trauwaen stating “It’s corrected in 7.1 final”. And I’ve found it on 7.2.0 and 7.2.1.

The steps necessary to reproduce are already there on the issue description, namely the second issue on the “2)” part. I’ll reproduce it here for clarity:

2) ML site with content localization enabled

 How to reproduce :

 On a new installation,

 add a second language

enable content language on the host settings and on  admin/language settings

set the page url of the page "About Us" to "about" for the default language

and set the page url of the page "About Us" to "about2" for the second language

On the default language the url is changed

 Issue :

The language parameter is not added to the default and not to the second language page. If the page name is the same in both language, the second language page is not accessible anymore.

The page url is not used for the second language

The first issue (the language parameter) I didn’t quite test since I have two domain alias, one for each locale. So, the missing language parameter in the url does not affect me. Maybe this first issue was what Sacha was referring to when he says it was fixed on 7.1 final!

But the second issue still remains. The URL specified in Page Url is recognized (inputting it manually in the browser address) and does not provoke a redirection. But the problem is that the Page URL is not used in the menu links or when inserting a hyperlink in HTML. The URL derived from the page name is always used.

I’m a C# and ASP.NET programmer for over a decade and I would love to contribute to DNN, but that’s not feasible for me right now. And surely it would take long to dive in…

Hope its clearer now.

Regards

ztp

Sacha did state that but I asked for a confirmation and never got one, so left the issue open (he originally raised the issue during a beta as far as I remember so we're always cautious about closing issues until confirmed by QA or the original reporter). To comment there is a comment button in the bottom left of the page, though if you were having issues in jira perhaps it's not showing - I've added your repro steps to the issue and added localization as a component as well as increasing it's priority (as a "low" and relative edge case it was pretty far down the list), but I've no idea when this will be looked at (not for 7.2.2 as we're fairly locked in on that release already)

Hi,

You can alternativelly, use openurlrewriter that replace the core rewriter and generate rigth urls for multi language sites wite page urls , alternate urls in sitemap and much more!

Thank you all for your attention to this issue.

While exploring DNN, I had played with that module (OpenURLRewriter) before trying the localization!

Had uninstalled it because I didn't understand that the module replaces all the link rewriting engine. At the time, it seemed more like an URL rewriting solution directed for pre-7 DNN, and since I did not needed that advanced URL rewriting, I moved on.

Just tried and it solved great!

Big thanks!! Tomorrow morning I'll just start web development on DNN!

If you are having a problem when turning on Advanced URLs for a previously localized website, be sure to read Content Localization Walkthrough. The key statement is:

The way language specific site aliases work is a break from DNN versions prior to 7.1. Since DNN does not automatically upgrade from human friendly URLs to advanced URLs, it is also not able to automatically add language specific aliases. That means that after an upgrade from a pre-DNN 7.1 version, and a switch to advanced URLs, you will also need to add the language specific URLs.

I was having problems specifically with pages that had the same name in both EN and FR (e.g. Resources or Contact). When I was viewing the English site, selecting Resources would call up the French page, for example. I added language-specific site aliases to my website as documented by the above article and everything worked again.
