Hi, I am still confused about this workflow in DNN, while have been using DNN since version 4.

When you add a module to a page, then copy it to other pages by using "Add existing module", then changing the basic module settings in one instance might not take effect in all other copies of the module on subpages. I am not only referring to 3rd party modules but also to the basic HTML/Text Module.

It seems that this has been working differently in several versions of DNN. In some DNN versions, changing module settings in one module instance would also change them in all other instances. Then in other versions this didn't seem to work. I would like to see a Checkbox in Module Settings right next to the Save Button that says "make changes in all copied module instances" or similar. If you have many many subpages, making a small change in the Footer Content Area will take you ages to apply if you have copied the module to a lot of pages.

I have been testing this for things like the Module Title, the Module Skin as well as the AdvancedSettings > Header and Footer Content.

Please let me know if there is something I have been missing throughout all the years using DNN.

Thanks

Patrice,

My experience has been that a module sited on multiple pages will duplicate its *content* across each "site", but not its settings (e.g. modules, "Title") which seems to be what you are describing. There is some logic behind this, but an option to include (or not include) setting would make DNN more flexible.

One option is to make your changes directly to the database, although I have not investigated doing this for module settings.

There is a difference between a reference to a module instance and a copy. If you copy content, you actually clone the instance including all settings, and edits will only affect the module on that page. If you just create a reference, edits of content will affect both references and most of the settings will affect both modules as well - except those, which are page specific (settings tab "Page Settings").
I am not aware of recent changes in this behavior.

Cheers from Germany,
