Background: I've modified the gravity skin to make my own skin and I've left the menu unchanged so far (just copied the simple folder and whatever styles were in the skin.css).  I can't guarantee that my own stylings haven't changed spacing somewhere but it looks similar.

The problem: I hover over one of the parent/root menu items and the dropdown menu appears BUT when I try to move the mouse down to one of the menu items in the submenu the submenu disappears.  It only works if you carefully track the mouse over the 'caret' shaped graphic to make your way onto the submenu.

The question: Is there some way to make the submenu remain on screen longer (few milliseconds) so that this could be avoided?  Or some other solution in design?

A bit of self answering...

#dnn_pnav > li > ul { top:25px;}

This reduces the gap between the root level and second level menu so that it doesn't disappear when the mouse moves down.  I don't know if this is the best option (since now the 'caret' graphic is intruding into the text ).

If someone has a better answer I'd be glad to hear it.

It's typical for css/list-based menus to fall apart as soon as a designer applies some default styling to lists - which were meant for formatting content and not creating menus.

There'll be some ul li styling in your skin that is messing with the menu.. but my point is that it's really the other way around.

Rob

Yeah, thanks Rob.

I hadn't looked too deeply at the menu because I assumed (at least partially mistakenly) that functionality was tied up in the /simple/ contents and was new stuff that I didn't have time for right now.  I was being lazy when I posted the initial question. I hadn't really expected the answer that it was simply css but since DNN always gives me problems with that, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
