By thye way.... any idea where I could find an Italian Language pack??
I tried to look around but only found old info and dead links regarding the old www.dotnetnuke.com website.

current versions do include Italian language packs for DNN framework (look at "available extensions")

Hi Edoardo,

a) I have upgraded two installations successfully from 5.2.3 following these paths:
1. 523-551-568-628 (as suggested)
2. 523-615 (in one shot)

But, to tell you the truth, v5.2.3 is a hard one to leave behind, the same thing that happened some time ago with v4.9.5.

b) You say that the new popup windows are giving you trouble. The translated resources work fine for me on them, but as a matter of fact I have disabled this feature; I found it easier and cleaner setting the old fashioned register and login pages:

Admin, Site Settings, Advanced Settings, Usability Settings, Enable Pop-Ups? = unchecked.
Maybe it's worth trying this. Probably won't work either, but then again... it's software ;)

c) Also, I know you've cheked files within GlobalResources, but I suggest that you double check if there are any non translated messages here:
\App_GlobalResources\SharedResources.xx-XX.resx
\App_GlobalResources\GlobalResources.xx-XX.resx

If you end up finding a solution, please come back and post it :)

Saludos!

Ok, I just reverted back to version 5.8.1 and upgraded to 6.1.5 as you suggested.

I just noticed that the resource file involved is present in 3 versions:
User.ascx.it-IT.Host, User.ascx.it-IT.portal-8 and User.ascx
The only working version seems to be User.ascx
Did anything change as far as the naming of resource files with different scopes is concerned (ie. site level, host level)?

Is it correct that both the files that the system is not using don't end with an ascx extension or might this be the problem?
I have noticed that these three files don't have the same number of fields. User.ascx has the most fields in it followed by User.ascx.it-IT.Host that seems to have a few missing fields
and finally User.ascx.it-IT.portal-8 that has only 10 out of 61 in User.ascx.

Any clue as to how I'm supposed to go about the custom translation of my User resources ONLY for portal 8?

Thank you

please check presence of files on file system  level:

  • User.ascx.resx.resx is the original file provided by DNN
  • User.ascx.it-IT.Host.resx is an installation wide modification of Italian resources
  • User.ascx.it-IT.portal-8.resx is a website specific modification of Italian resources

There seem to be missing User.ascx.it-IT.resx, translation from Italian language pack. You might want to re-install Italian language pack in Host > Extensions (Available Extensions).
