Hiya All,

I am using the latest Documents Module 03.01.03 with the latest DNN 4.1.3

I have added a category List and created some Categories that now appear in a drop down list.

However, If I go to edit a Document that Already contains a category then the Category Drop down list resets to "Not Specified" Rather than retaining the category. This means that you must select the category Again each time you wish to edit a Document...Can this be fixed....??

Also, is there any way to add links to documents using the Categories to list them.

Simialr to the dashboard that the Repository Module has.

I am trying to migrate from Sharepoint to DNN and the first thing everyone wants to see is a Categories view linked to the Documents?

Ray..

This is happening because when you defined the list entries, you defined a "value" that was different than the "text" value.  The next version will use the list item "value" as the stored category instead of the "text" value (and will fix the problem).  In the meantime, edit your list values so the text & value is the same.

Hiya,

Thx for the Reply...

Could you try answer my second Question...Its about getting use out of the fact that all docs are Categorized.

Is there a way to Link on the Home page Via Catagories that Have been setup on the Douments.

Similar to A Dashboard in the repository Module or simalr to how Sharepoint Can have a Category Module that just links to the documents Via Category.

ie: you click on a Category and the docs that have this category are displayed.

From using sharepoint I have noticed that this makes it very easy to find the doc you want

thx for your help

Hi Ray,

If I am understanding your question properly, you want a way for users to be able to view documents from a single category only?  The implementation for this would probably have two methods for selecting the category:

1.  A drop-down list.

2.  A querystring value or some other mechanism for setting the category via the Url link from another page.

Is that correct?  If so, I will add a request to Gemini on your behalf.

Hiya,

Thx for the Reply..

What I am looking for is a quick way to Browse to Documents based on how they have been categorised.

I saw previously that there was a LinkByCategory Module but this only works on older versions of DNN..

This was based on the Links Module.

Even so...The Category Options in the latest version of DNN 431 would be alot more useful if you could link to them.

At the moment , how I could do this would be a 2 stage process....

Upload my Docs and add Categories Using DNN Documents Module.

Then on the Home page I can use the Links Module to add Links But I have to Create Categories again Myself and these are in no way tied to the Categories created using the Documents module....

This would be a completely seperate view of the Documents that I would have to Maintain.

It would be Great to have a way to Browse quickly ( Via Categories in Document Module )..

The Guys developing the repository module have a new feature Called a Dashboard.

This is installed seperatley to the Repository Module and Basicaly creates A cateory view of documents in the Repository Directory.

Its a very Power idea ??

Any help...

Ray..
