I have been thinking of migrating our rather limited in capability vBulletin site to DNN. We are confident in DNN now, and are looking for a host.

GoDaddy seems to have the best deals, and is also the largest which raise confidence with the whole 'safety in numbers'. However, their MS SQL is limited to 200MB, with no capability to expand. and I mean NONE, I asked are there additional services or anything, they have no way to do it.

Not knowing much about how DNN uses the MS SQL databse, I would like to ask you all a question that will help me strategically plan for a future.

What size is your database and how many users and modules is that?

Fwiw ... Godaddy have a long history of bad installs of dnn ... These forums are littered with pages of nightmares ... I would personally look a little farther afield if it was me.

But in terms of data usage ... If your site is relatively static the 200 meg will get you a fair way ... However ... If you are looking to use a forum type module ... Those posts and feeds can certainly add up over time in terms of usage of data space.

I am open to other suggestions, havent really set it in stone.  The reason I ignored many of the GoDaddy complaints is many of the ones I have come across are related to the automated install feature. I did not plan on using that as I feel more confident in just doing this myself. I was also considering them because many of my domain names are with various companies and I thought it would be good to consolidate.

I would be running forums and other such software. The existing vBulletin forum on one of the sites is rather large too, so that is a concern. What are some recommendations you have?

Been there, done that.. it's not worth the hustle.. got a VPS and never looked back.

I wouldn't recommend anything less than a VPS with 4GB RAM.

1and1.com is the cheapest, $35/mo for the first year $49 after that for the XL Windows VPS.

Cant speak too highly of powerdnn - dnn sites hosted there pretty much just work - take a 14 day trial for free - and have a look at the services they offer.
