IIS AppPool\dnndev.me and RUBENS\dnndev.me are different user names - one points to the IIS AppPool context - the other points the RUBENS system context

- you need to enter in IIS AppPool\dnndev.me fully into the user name field again when you come back to the username form - the search popup seems to default back incorrectly to the system context when running on windows 8x systems that are not connected to a domain.

Basically - dont bother doing a user name search if you know the name is valid - just enter it in fully IIS AppPool\dnndev.me - this is largely to do with the fact that the IIS AppPool users are a little odd - they are dynamically generated and only really exist in the local context.

Ironically you can bypass this issue in part on ms sql if you are not using windows authentication - on out test platforms we tend to run native SQL authentication - which means we then do native logins to ms sql using a sql username/password combination  -  ironically - this is actually how most hostings will operate since the sql server might be on a separate system that does not have windows domain access permissions configured - but can still be accessed using native sql permissions.

But regardless in your case - make sure you create a sql user called IIS AppPool\dnndev.me - not RUBENS\dnndev.me

Thanks, Wes,

I didn't expect the trick to be not using the search popup at all... that did it.

Thanks again.

Ten thousand different combinations of windows configurations - there's always something weird that catches you out.
Tough still need to go back to the original question of the post - why the windows platform installer was not doing what you expected.
That does still need to be resolved in some way.

Hi,

I'm trying to install DNN through the web platform installer 4.6. I have installed SQL Server and created a blank "DotNetNuke" database.

When I execute the platform installer "dotnetnuke_iis.exe", though, I get stuck at the first step, when the program asks "what kind of database would you liek to use" (actually, it reads "¿Qué tipo de base de datos le gustaría usar?", in Spanish). The is a combo box with only one option to choose from: "SQL Server (Not installed)".

There's no way... I can't get passed this step. Could anyone please help?

Tkanks in advance!

Had a look at the new web platform installer 4.6 today - and ok I can see what does seem to be a somewhat confusing first page.

To get an understanding of what people are seeing - knocked up a clean win81 system in virtualbox - with nothing but the windows defaults installed - NO IIS NO MS SQL NO asp.net.

When you run  dotnetnuke_iis.exe  you do get landed onto a prerequisite page that is quite confusing.

It appears on first glance to be asking you to select a sql server - that does not actually exist at that stage - and I can understand how you would have been confused.

It doesnt say much apart from the dropdown showing no options but "sql not installed"  - and a couple of fields asking for a password.

Although not explained at all well - what it actually  seems to want - is for you create 'sa' password and to just hit ok for the installer to start doing its thing.

Cant help but feel this really needs to be explained MUCH better.

Im thinking maybe there needs to be a new video made that actually explains how to use this installer.

BUT ... following on from that the installer then proceeded to lock up and never complete ...

After a couple of restarts and tests of the platform installer - it would appear that the platform installer has other issues.

I will raise these in a separate thread to keep things clean.

Is there any manual installation download link?

Microsoft Web Platform Installer won't work for me.

Thanks in advance.
