Open IIS Manager go to your site and check the Handler Settings.  Set permissions to execute scripts and executables.  Set propper permissions for annonymous user (local IUser) read only and for the application pool user (this is basicly the local IUsers group or Network Service full permissions, be sure you inherit the permissions to all subfolders and files.

Also be sure you have unblock the install package before you extract them (Right click - Advanced Settings).

Please note if you are using the source package you have to compile the Project before installing!

There are a couple of reasons why this happens.

1. the first is that possible asp.net was installed before IIS.
2. IIS is not cofigured for asp.net application development.

Best approach is:

Open Control Panel: Programs and Features
click on Turn Windows Features on or off

Make sure Internet Information Services -> World Wide Web Services is showing as installed.
If not select and hit ok to install - may require a reboot

Unselect both
.Net Framework 3.5
.Net Framework 4.0

And hit ok - this should remove the asp.net stuff
you will need to reboot.

Come back into Control Panel - Turn Windows Features on or off
Reselect
.Net Framework 3.5
.Net Framework 4.0

hit ok - the frameworks should reinstall
may need a reboot

Come back into Control Panel area again - Turn Windows Features on or off

Expand out the Internet Information Services section
Expand out the World Wide Web Services section
Expand out the Application Development Features section
Make sure all the options in this area are turned on
- EXCEPT for Application Initialization -- this is not yet supported by DNN

Hi Wes,
I too am having this problem. I went in to remove dot net 3.5 and 4.5 as mentioned. However, when I selected them to be uninstalled I got messages about a LOT of other things  that would also have to be uninstalled so I did not go ahead.

I know for sure that dot net was installed before IIS on both my 2012 servers...one dev one prod. I am just setting them up. I got the servers all up and running before I turned on IIS as one of the last things I did in the initial configuration of the servers.

So I am unsure how it is possible to remove 3.4 and 4.5 with the sort of messages I am getting.

I am using 2012 server data center edition on VMs with sql server 2012 and IIS8. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards Peter
