Hi

I am experiencing a bug with 4.3.1 (source) version whereby documents uploaded from any file location other than root will not be displayed (displayed) when logged of the website.

There is no problem seeing all the documents when logged in as superuser.
There is no problem using docs from the root location (either logged in or logged out).
File manager reports the folder settings are of status "Insecure - file system".

STOP PRESS - Looking at the security setting of the folders in File Manager Administrators only have view folder/write to folder permissions. Adding "view folder" permissions to all users solved the problem.
Is this a bug or behaviour by design?

Cheers

Alex

p.s. Feature request - Ability to open certain documents in seperate windows

I hope this is by design. If not, dont fix it :) This is a great feature :)

Would be OK if there was some indication of it....

On a different note if I enable the download column to be visible I get the below error message on every row displayed. If I disable it all works fine again.

Error: MyDocument.pdf is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: index ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: index at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.get_Item(Int32 index) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Documents.Document.grdDocuments_ItemCreated(Object sender, DataGridItemEventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Cheers

Hi Alex,

Your initial problem was (as you determined for yourself), that the folder you were adding files to is set to not allow view access to anonymous users.  The documents module implements the new "secure storage" feature of DNN, and does not display documents that the current user does not have rights to.

The other error is a bug, which has been reported and fixed (and will be in the next release).  In the meantime, you can work around the bug by moving the download column "up" in the list so there aren't any "invisible" columns before it.

Great thanks. What would be good (maybe???) would be if the list items were colour coded red or something if anonymous users can't see it. I can also see this could be impracticle as well. Something to think about anyway.

Couple of possible bugs.

a) "Open Link In New Browser Window?" sometimes doesn't work (might be user specific for some reason).

b) File Location sometimes shows old folders that no longer exist.

A quick question. I'm sorting the list by title. How can I reverse the sort order?
Excellent work.

Thanks

Alex

p.s. Feature requests you might want to consider...

1) Ability to set by default so that new entries open in seperate windows

2) Ability to set a default file location.

3) Ability to centrally manage all document module links from one centralised page.

4) Ability to bulk import documents (would be very useful indeed). Are the lists XML based?... Can one manually hack the XML file for faster data entry. For instance I might have 100 documents with similar names, e.g. ha01.doc, ha02.doc, ha03.doc etc. It's much quick to copy and paste the entry 100 times and change the one letter for each entry. Just a thought.

5) Ability to page listings of documents (1 of 10, 2 of 10 etc). Useful if thousands of documents are listed in the module and you don't want to show 1000 documents on one page at any one time.

6) Show appropriate icons for each type of document (user definable).
