I tracked down the database calls for page settings. DNN is getting page information and settings, next folder information for the folders on the top level (for icon filepicker) and the list of all files, followed by a call to load file info for each file in top level folder - and this whole procedure is repeated for large Icon filepicker, i.e. if you are having 500 files in root folder of your website (e.g. /portals/0), you will end up with more than 1.000 database calls.

Hi guys,

I just wanted to add to this thread as I've also recently upgraded to DNN 7.2.2 from DNN 7.1.2 and I've seen a massive performance hit which has almost brought my site to a standstill and is definitely impacting customer experience.

The problem occurs once the site starts to receive load from users logging in and then the CPU on the server will hit 100% and everything grinds to a halt. I've logged a support ticket with DNN support but welcome any advice as they've gone very quiet!

One of my portals does have a folder off of the portal root which has 1,853 files in it which is required by my customers.

Help!

Thanks, Adam

you may try my turboSQL Scripts at dnnscript.codeplex.com, which improves a number of stored procedures, reducing the load.
However, it will not affect resources required by the web server (make sure, there is enough RAM for caching).

Thanks Sebastian I'll checkout your Turbo Scripts, my server has 4Gb RAM and the DNN application process only ever reaches max 1.2GB est. so the server never hits its top limit even with other processes running, it hovers around 3.1GB used total on server.

The script may improve database performance but will not affect cache size - DNN 7.3.0 is targeting to improve memory footprint and performance as well.
PS: please backup your database prior to applying my scripts. They have been successfully applied to a few dozen sites, but as I learned from fixes contributed to DNN 7.2.2, it is hard to envision and catch all anomalies in existing databases.
