OnyakTech released a new module to BETA June 30, 2006.  This is a Microsoft Outlook Add-in that allows you to do mass emailing to all of your DotNetNuke users from Outlook.  Subscribers may download the beta from the Members area now.  Report all bugs and/or feature requests here.

At this time, using OnyakTech Mail Merge you can send professional looking newsletters to your DNN users in both Text or HTML format.  The production release will have all of the basic features of any mail merge utility along with user filtering, role expiration notifications, easy unregister links, SPAM keyword detection, attachments, etc.

If this is something you can use, subscribe and get involved in the beta testing of this module by clicking here.

Hi Chris,

I am not yet a subscriber on your site but this project seems very interesting. How does that work? Do you need to have Outlook installed on the server or does it connect in some nifty way to the SQL database from anywhere?

You don't need Outlook installed on the server or access to SQL Server remotely.

Mail Merge uses web services to communicate from your PC to your Web Site with key codes for security.   It's an Add-On for Microsoft Outlook.  Once installed, you can interact with Mail Merge using a new toolbar you will see when viewing your email.

One final question. My site has > 13,000 registered members and I get approx 1,000 new users per month. Will that module work with such volumes?

The goal is to be able to handle large volumes.  Some design was put in place for this and there are additional changes planned to improve it even more.  Testing is be used on a server with 5,000.  The production release is expected to handle these volumes without any problems.
