We have a solution hacing couple of ASCXes that uses Ajax Control Toolkit (Modal Popup, Calendar, Collapsible Panels etc); I am trying to wrap them as DNN module for a client who is using DNN 6.2. In my dev setup; I have installed DNN 6.2.9 having Telerik Web UI 2012.2.724.35 to be exact; I have tried different Ajax Control Toolkit NUGET packages and these three (DNN, Telerik and ACT / Ajax Control Toolkit) are not playing nice together.

We need to deploy to IIS6 / SQL 2005 server; so have to keep things in DNN 6.2 / .NET 4. Can anyone confirm if its possible to use ACT for DNN 6.2 module development? If yes; which can anyone point which version of ACT is recommended?

There is a known issue with newer releae of ACT - the older releases subclassed one .net class so would work with anything (such as telerik) that inherited from that class. More recent releases of ACT use a different inheritance and so no longer work (telerik searches for classes which inherit from the original class) - I can't remember what version this happened in, so you may need to try a few old ones, but in essence recent ACT releases are not compatible with the telerik classes which ship with DNN

Note: there is a core hack you can do which apparently works -see http://www.dnnsoftware.com/forums/for... -note: I haven't tested this and don't know anyone who's used it so can't vouch for it working.

Thank you Cathal for the link; I tried going down that path; some controls started working; but still was getting different Javascript errors on different pages. My module project is .NET 4; and things started getting messy with DNN 6.2 with its Telerik *.35. Now I am trying latest DNN 7.2 release (7.2.1.367) on IIS7/SQL2008/.NET4 with ACT 4.x and 7.x but still getting the following errors! I am using couple of Calendar and Modal Popup Extenders

unable to get property 'ui' of undefined or null reference
unable to get property '_behaviors' of undefined or null reference

Is there any KB / Wiki having "official" standing on how to use Ajax Control Toolkit with latest DNN 7.x; which combination of these two are officially supported / were tested / known to be working etc?

no, I'm afraid not - it's not something we get often asked about and due to it's history not something we've looked to fix. To give some background -DNN started to use asp.net Ajax as soon as it came out, and later added telerik to the distribution (both of these work seamlessly together as telerik inherits from the MS Ajax scriptmanager class). For the first few years of telerik, ACT worked fine until Microsoft decided to break binary compatibility and change inheritance from scriptmanager (which other Ajax frameworks such as telerik or component one used) to a brand new class called toolkitmanager (which only ACT uses). This meant that lots of code broke (you can see some of the complaints at https://ajaxcontroltoolkit.codeplex.c... ). Frankly after that point lots of people stopped trusting ACT (i.e. if Microsoft can arbitrarily change something and break lots of existing websites it wasn't something wise to trust), and most people tended to use telerik in a DNN environment - until the past few years when the usage of jquery plugins became popular.
