Thanks for your help cathal. I'm good on the first 3 points you suggested but I haven't tried the 4th. I will give that a shot and see if I can get a more descriptive error.

It sounds as though it's a problem between the web site and SQL. If you have a full copy of SQL Server run the profiler and then try the web site. The profiler can show you the traffic into SQL server.
- if you find no traffic then somehow it's not communicating with SQL
- if you find some then what you see may give you clues for more investigation

If you don't have the profiler then I believe there are some free tools in this area but I have never used them.

Hi Richard,

Yeah, I ran the profiler and it showed nothing. I will try Fiddler and see if that helps.

Hold on - that's seriously suspicious. Try it with your working database. I'm sure you will see stuff happening in the database. Once you see that then repeat with the DB that doesn't work. You may have to fiddle with profiler settings to get it to show you failed logins or something.
