Before getting into the details of my problem let me say that have been working with DNN since the beginning of the 4.x era so I have a fair amount of experience installing and configuring DNN websites.  I have upgraded a number of sites  from 4.x, 5.x and 6.x to 7,1 but this is the first 7.2 site I am creating as a "clean install".  Any and all suggestions are welcome!

  • Web Server: Windows Server 2008 Standard (not R2)
  • ASP.NET Version 4.0
  • IIS Version: 7.0
  • Database Server: Windows Server 2008 Standard (not R2)
  • Database Version: SQL Server 2008 R2
  • Website Directory: g:\websites\dotnetnuke\mywebsite
  • I am using the DNN install package ZIP file.

Problem Summary

The installation completed with no errors or messages. A check of the log files from the setup screen showed no log files were created. When I clicked the “View Website” button I was taken to the new website home page and could see the default content in the background but then the “Welcome…” pop-up opened and displayed “HTTP Error 404.0 – Not Found. The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.” See below for the error message details. Attempting to close the pop-up windows starts and endless look where the pop up open again then closes over and over.  I have completely deleted and reinstalled a number of times thinking I messed up one of the install options.

Error Details

  • Module: IIS Web Core
  • Notification: MapRequestHandler
  • Handler : StaticFile
  • Error Code: 0x80070002
  • Requested URL: http://www.mywebsite.com:80/Getting-Started/mid/363?ReturnUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.mywebsite.com%2f&popUp=true
  • Physical Path: g:\websites\dotnetnuke\mywebsite\Getting-Started\mid\363
  • Logon Method: Anonymous
  • Logon User: Anonymous

I have a feeling there is something simple that I am missing but I am at a loss.  I have checked through these forums but have had no luck finding anything that helps me.

Thanks to all who take time to read this and/or post a reply.

Best regards,
Chuck R.

Hi Chuck R.,

I had recently installed DNN on a go daddy account. After installing it I was unable to get to the admin or host settings and received a 404 error (I think it was a 404). After unsuccessfully attempting to find the problem I ended up deleting all the files on my server and installed it again. This time I was able to access admin and host. I noticed some pages now did not work. I ended up going into my ftp file manager and went through each file and folder and found that randomly some files did not have read write permissions. After giving said files read/write permissions everything worked. I dont know if this is your problem but it helped me...Good luck and let me know what the fix was!

Also, My getting started file is located in hostingpath/Portals/_default

Also, I just noticed this: Logon Method: Anonymous Logon User: Anonymous. when setting up the site did you specify a username and password for the main super user account? if not that could be the problem... but I'm just shooting in the dark.
