I will log it with the webops team to see if they can recover them. Note: as Sebastian suggests many of them may be spam, I don't know if that module records unapproved comments in the count or not.

It REALLY needs to be for approved ones specially if the blog is moderated so it doesn't make sense if the count is for all comments.

When I see a blog post with a big comments count (before reading the post), it suggests the post is a good one. It might be interesting, or very informative or controversial. In any case, it suggests it's worth reading.

Tony, I agree that there is a need, but there are other issues since the relaunch, which are more urgently awaited by international community members.
