Hi,

I have a website that my company has created and I'm needing to make some changes to it, while not effecting the live site. The site has a good amount of content on it and I'd like to download templates/skins/etc... and get a local copy up and running to do changes.

The website is using DNN 07.01.00 and I have the latest Microsoft WebMatrix download with current DNN, I've exported the site template but I can't find Host->Portals to install the new template to the local copy. I go to create a new site in Host->Site Managment -> New Site and I'm not sure where to upload my new, custom, template?

I'd like, not only to know where to install the exported site template, but also what other things should I be downloading from the old site to get a local copy up and running? The site also has custom modules, the reason I'm making a local copy is because I keep having problems re-uploading the updated modules. What do I need to download the modules too?

- backup database and restore on a local sql server, make sure there is a login with dbowner role
- backup all files and restore to a local folder inside c:\inetpub (not wwwroot)
- edít windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file to add an alias (uncommented) to point to your local machine
. in IIS manager, create a website pointing to your directory using the name and ASP.4.0 integrated app pool
- edit BOTH connection strings in web.config file to point to your database
- in your database (either via DNN before backup or using a tool like SSMS afterwards) make sure, there is a portalAlias pointing to your website and no redirect is configured for another default alias (so called "DNN 7 challenge")
