Okay so I went in and double checked permissions and passwords in the connection strings- first nothing- then 404 error!

So what has changed since you got the "Could not connect to database ..." error?

You might get a 404 error if the portalalias is not changed properly to the new location. You need to do this in the PortalAlias table

okay I figured out my errors, however have run into another one...(lessons learned for anyone else)

I checked passwords and authentications- 1 check mark that I did not want - unchecked...good, corrected password by resetting it for database (backedup) I'm using on staged portal...good

So I figured out the upgrade package was not FTP copied to the directory where the staged portal I setup was. I started to transfer this and realized I was transferring into a sub folder not onto the directory needed. Stop transfer...delete the 261 files transferred, but I was tired and not paying attention and deleted the wrong subfile so now I've corrupted the old backed up file I loaded to stage before the upgrade package.  Realizing this - I decided to delete all the files- re ftp the backed up web files- relink the database and then transfer the upgrade package to the correct directory.

It sorta worked - got it to the site, but wrong directory...(figured this out when the install just didn't do anything in browser- no 404 or 500 error just blank) ...used file manager to copy to correct directory.   Re-fired the install.aspx?mode =upgrade for the site - went 100% no issue...except.

It doesn't recognize my Super User password!

I know there is a fix for this -----> help please!
