No it isn't normal, hence my frustration. All the "old" .ascx files were getting this error:

Error: RaceBaseVB is currently unavailable. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Could not load type 'RaceSummaryView'. --->

The empty View.ascx generated by the Christoc template "worked" (it loaded) by since there were no controls on it I added one:

<%@ Control Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="View.ascx.vb" Inherits="View" %>

<asp:label id="lblHelloWorld" runat="server"></asp:label>

and rebuild, install, and then I get:

Error: RaceBaseVB is currently unavailable. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Could not load type 'View'. --->

Ok - so the control inherits from class View, and that's what cannot be loaded.

I'd be asking:
- where is View defined?
- is just plain View actually correct? Should there be any namespaces to go with that?
- did View get renamed and this reference to it missed

Given that you are seeing this in all the 'old' classes as well maybe you are missing a bunch of files on the site? Do you need the .designer files there too?

Oh wait!! Did you omit to deploy the dll? to the bin folder? That's where class View likely is and all the other *View classes too.

The view.ascx (and view.ascx.vb) are straight from the generated template. Not renamed, with the addition of that one line for the label.
