Hi All -

I am a new developer. I just got my first job working as a developer about 2 months ago now, and a big part of my job is working with DNN.

The company that I am working on wants to use DNN pretty extensively, and since it's a new project, I have been tasked with becoming the "go to guy" for DNN. So, needless to say, I could really use some help.

Could anyone recommend some good books or videos or links for learning all about DNN? I just really need some guidance, especially with module development as I will be writing/modifying a lot of modules.

I already checked out Chris Hammond's tutorials on module development (super awesome and helpful) and I checked out the "Southern Fried Dnn" module development tutorial as well. I was able to follow along and get a lot out of it, but I need to go a little deeper now.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

The wiki is a good resource , whilst it could do with some updates http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... is a good starting point (the home page of the wiki also surfaces some of the more common, important sections - http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki )

You should check CodePlex for templates if you do not yet have them and then search for tutorials and other materials about how to use them. That is a kind of backward way to do it but you can do it the forward direction too.

For books, I suggest going to Amazon and searching for DotNetNuke. Most books were written before the name was changed. I suggest looking at the negative reviews; there will always be negative reviews that are useless but some negative reviews can be useful.

I have read and reviewed DotNetNuke 5 User's Guide. It is a non-developer's introduction to DotNetNuke. If you want concepts then that book is not it. I have just received DotNetNuke Modulre Programming. The Amazon reviews indicate there is not much useful in that book but I am hoping it will at least get me past the emotional barrier of getting started.

I have also just received DotNetNuke 5.4 Cookbook. It has code and looks interesting. There is only one review of it in Amazon however but that review is quite positive.

there is another new tutorial on module development from MVP fellow Torsten Weggen on www.dnn-connect.org you may want to check out.
AFAIK, the DNN 5.4 cookbook by pack publishing is still available - though it doesn't cover the new features, IMHO it still provides a number of fundamental explanations and best practices, which are still valid.
