You should use the suggested upgrade path documented in the Wiki, and include module and skin upgrades (and whatever else you are using).

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Sebastian,

on a dnn 5.6.5 I wanted to replace the fckeditor with ckeditor, as you suggested. The installation went fine and apparently the ckeditor became the default editor right away.

However, after I removed fckeditor (including files) the site became unavailable (503). I then edited the web.config and removed the fckeditor lines in the htmleditor section and the site is up again. I suppose, for some reasons, the uninstall did not work.

I also noticed other mentions still remaining of fckeditor in the web.config, sections handlers, httphandlers (DotNetNuke.HtmlEditor.TelerikEditorProvider), modules and httpmodules (raduploadmodule), apparently harmless. What should one do with those?

Thanks
Franco

Franco,
you should remove fckeditor references in web.config, make sure that the Provider dll is removed from bin and /Providers/htmleditor/fck Folder is deleted.

Indeed, no more references to fck under providers, web.config and bin. I still find references to telerik and a telerik folder under htmlproviders, thus I guess fck is not the same as telerik, which is then rad-editor? Confused...

Telerik is vendor of a control library used by DNN, which includes a rich text editor (called RAD Editor) that will be used via Telerik Editor Provider (DNN 5, now obsolete) or Rad Editor Provider (since DNN 6, originally contributed by Philipp Becker). i.e. you need the the Telerik library and may keep the RadEditor provider installed (and switch between providers in Host > Editor Configuration) or uninstall the provider, if you are using a different one.
