Ok, this site is not used to register public users. On a thought that there may be something related, I enabled private registration and tried to login. I still couldn't but when I tried to register I got the following error from the Event Viewer:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.ArgumentException: An entry with the same key already exists.
I didn't include the entire stack trace for brevity. Does this offer insight?

Is this a fresh install? If not, were there any recent changes that could have caused this?

Also, if you log in and it hangs, can you back up and see if it actually logged you in? What I'm trying to see is if the log in is successful but it hangs before closing the window.

Thanks Sebastian, but the registration issue was fixed by unchecking the FirstName - LastName boxes in the UserAccounts form. There is no stack trace for the login issue.

 The Event Viewer shows a successful login. I didn't make any changes other than to upgrade to 7.2.2
Below is a modified copy paste from the Event Viewer color coded 'operation success'.
