just to be clear, DNN platform does still have the code for digest authentication, however it will not work if you are using hashed passwords (as the digest code does a GetPassword call which fails for hashed passwords) -if you control your DNN instances you can of course change the passwordformat to encrypted before installing and it will work as before, which is a valid approach if you only plan to use services against DNN instances you control, but not if you plan on selling a component where you do not know if the sites that use it will be using encrypted or hashed. DNN-3330 is an example of digest not working against a site using hashed passwords (it's listed as 7.1.0 as that's when hashed passwords became the new installation default)

Cathal, thanks for the clarification. We DO have control of our DNN instance b/c all of our software offerings are SAAS web apps within DNN. Currently the passwordFormat="Hashed". Even though we could change the "passwordFormat" to "encrypted", and use Digest, we will probably leave it as "Hashed" and soon add SSL for extra security.

With this info in mind, it's safe to say that currently when our iPad app requests data from our web services (built using DNN service framework), it is actually using Basic (clear text) authentication, is that correct?

Han
