We have a new business requirement to install DNN 7 on Oracle 11g.

As far as I'm concerned it requires a DataProvider. AcuitiSolutions has been providing this for awhile, but I'm not sure if they still are. I have contacted them 5 days ago, but still no response and their products cannot be purchased from the links they provide.

Therefore, is there any other way I could install DNN on Oracle? If I convert the SQL Server database to Oracle, would it work?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks

no, the only option would be an Oracle data provider - for the core Framework and any module you are using (that's storing Information in the database). Creating a database provider for the core might be easier now, as DNN is now using PetaPoco, but most of the modules are still relying on DAL/DAL+, which requires a method in the data Provider for each data access.

Thanks Sebastian. If I wanted to create my own DataProvider ( I don't have experience with this) which files would I need to modify?
Would it be these?
07.02.02.SqlDataProvider
DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider
DotNetNuke.Schema.SqlDataProvider
UnInstall.SqlDataProvider
InstallCommon.sql
InstallMembership.sql
InstallProfile.sql
InstallRoles.sql

Personally I think this is a non-starter.

There are about 800 stored procedures in a base install DNN database. Somehow you have to convert ALL of those to PL/SQL. Assuming that works - you will also be relying on future development only using SQL Server features that have Oracle analogs.

I very much doubt that you will find any practical way of upgrading to a newer version than the one you convert.

You will also be placing the same constraints on any modules you buy.

It will be cheaper to a) buy a licence for SQL Server. b) - if your management will not have SQL server on the premises then host it someplace else.

I have to agree with Richard - even while DNN is now using Petapoco and the size of sqldatabaseprovider.cs file decreased significantly, there is still a large number of stored procedures, functions and views to be converted (approx. 20.000 lines of SQL code). you would need to migrate dnnschema.sqldataprovider, dnndata.sqldataprovider and all .sqldataprovider files since 07.00.01.sqldataprovider. I have done reviewing all the code and optimizing it, and it took me about a years work.
