Hi all,

Have downloaded the latest version of DNN and unpacked to c:\websites\dnndev.me\

Setup in IIS 8.5 went to dnndev.me URL in browser and was met with the installation setup pages..
went through all that successfully it finished 100%. I clicked the goto website link but get error object reference
not set to instance of an object....

The actual webpage just Says "DNN Error"
The error is displayed in the URL : http://dnndev.me/Default.aspx?tabid=56&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

Any help appreciated...

Running windows 8.1, IIS 8.5.. ASP 4.5

Unfortunately that's not enough detail, you'll have to look into the eventlog table and see if it contains more information (you might also try to set log4net to All and see if any additional details are stored in the log4net logfiles -http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/...

Thanks for the input.... I have managed to get some insight since initial post....

Error was happening in both Dev and Live... in Dev In Visual Studio in the Developer Web Server Settings I changed
Windows Authentication to Enabled and it now works fine in Dev but still not under IIS 8.5

So I am thinking it is a problem accessing DB.... Where would I change the same setting under IIS is where I am now scratching my head???

Any more help appreciated !

Edit: It is now saying connection to DB failed when browsing under IIS.... Working well in Dev (VS Web Server)

Thanks all

if you're having to enable windows authentication in dev it suggests you don't have iis set up correctly e.g. you haven't enabled anonymous authentication (http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/6...). As to the database, I suggest following the guidance at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/...

Matt,

Are you able to log in to SQL Server that DEV points to? I'd check the account. The credentials should be in the web.config file in the root directory of the web site.
